Llanelli Town Council are now in control of Parc Howard in collaboration with Carmarthenshire County Council. Great progress is now being made on the future of the parc with decisions being made in Llanelli.
This year, Llanelli Town Council and Carmarthenshire County Council have entered into an agreement to co-manage the park. All decisions relating to the park and mansion house will be made by the recently established collaboration group. The group consists of Councillors and Officers of both the County and Town Council.
The group most recently met at Parc Howard on Friday and have agreed a programme of works to be undertaken at the parc, starting with much needed drainage works to return our beloved fields back into a usable area for the people of Llanelli and not just a swampy marsh.
On Friday, it also gave me great pleasure to unveil a new notice board on behalf of the Park Howard Association who raised the funds and supplied to board which is a fantastic addition to the park. I’d also like to pay my respects to Barbara Willis, a founder member of the association who passed away recently. Barbara was a keen supporter of the park and I have many fond memories of working with her when she was secretary of the association.
The contentious issue of car parking is still on the agenda for discussion, but all decisions relating to the car park have been deferred for the time being while more pressing maintenance matters are resolved. All decisions relating to the park and mansion house will go through the collaboration group and I look forward to working with my fellow town councillors and the county councillors on the future of the park.
