This week, Coleg Sir Gar invited me to attend their Annual Sports Academy Awards which recognised the achievements of their sudents. Llanelli Town Council and others sponsor the Academy in it’s aim of ensuring that young sports men and women receive the support they need to become people and players of quality. Below is more information from the Coleg Sir Gar Website:
The Coleg Sir Gar Sports Academy concept has developed to provide students with the opportunity of achieving their maximum potential in both sporting and academic spheres. The sports academy structure develops young players of netball, football and rugby. It also supports individual performers in sports such as athletics, golf, kickboxing, cross country etc.
The academy has excellent links with partners e.g. Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), Scarlets, Wales Football Trust (WFT), The Welsh Netball Association (WNA), Carmarthenshire County Council Sports Development Department, Colegau Cymru and AoC Sport.
There are designated timetabled academy coaching sessions throughout the week with fixtures on a Wednesday. Sports academy students are drawn from a range of courses across the five Coleg Sir Gâr campuses. We compete on a weekly basis in Welsh and British competitions.
Academy students have access to strength and conditioning and physiotherapy support.
